Volograms for Enhanced Museum Experiences

The accessible AI-powered volumetric video solution we provide at Volograms motivated the VEMAR project, in which we show how volumetric holograms can be used to expand Augmented Reality applications in the museum.

The project was a implemented by freisicht GmbH, a software company that focuses on XR solutions for museums and cultural institutions; the Aargauer Kunsthaus, one of their cooperation partners; and HSLU's Immersive Realities Research Lab, who has expertise in volumetric video technology. These three institutions combined the necessary expertise to realize the VEMAR project as implementation partners, end users and research partners, respectively.

The main goal of the VEMAR project was to develop an AR app with volumetric video for the Aargauer Kunsthaus. The aim was to show holograms of artists explaining their work and a hologram of the director welcoming the audience to an exhibition. The mobile AR app allows visitors to have an expanded experience, namely to “encounter” the holograms of the artists and the director in the real museum.
